Dienomis mes pelėdų nematydavome: pelėdos isškrisdavo iš liepų tik naktį. Vieną rudens rytą mes išgirdome lauke didelį triukšmą. Ant liepų šakų tupėjo daug varnų. Varnos garsiai kranksėjo ir tokiu būdu kėlė didelį triukšmą. Kai jau galėjome gerai matyti, pamatėme mūsų pelėdas. 1:00 Jos tupėjo ant liepų šakų ir gynėsi nuo varnų. Matyt, varnoms patiko tos liepos, ir jos norėjo pelėdas iš liepų išvaryti. Tai buvo paukščių karas. Praėjo trys valandos. Varnos pagaliau nugalėjo pelėdas, kurios iš liepų nuskrido į mišką ir daugiau į mūsų liepas nesugrįžo. Nuo to laiko pelėdos neturėjo lizdų mūsų liepose, ir liepas ir egles užvaldė varnos.
